HOW AA WORKS

Mother's Day, 1935.

Akron, Ohio.

Alcoholics Anonymous began in 1935 when two alcoholics discovered they could help each other stay sober, when nothing else could. Since that day, AA has grown to over 2 million people in 180 countries. Our AA literature has been the main vehicle to transmit our message. The "Big Book" sets down the 12 Steps, which is the program of recovery for the individual. The Twelve Traditions establish how our society operates and functions. The Twelve Concepts are our guiding principles for world service.
